Today I’m going to share with you how to make my favorite flour sack dish towels. I love these dish towels because they are cute, easy to make, and the flour sack really soaks up the water when you dry your dishes. Plus they make great gifts too!
Here is a list of supplies that you'll need:
Flour sack towel, fabric and Elmer’s glue.
First cut the flour sack towels in half. You will get 2 dish towels out of 1 flour sack. Next cut two 2” strips of fabric by the width of fabric for the binding. Then fold the fabric in half and iron. Open and fold in half again on both sides. Then fold in half one more time.
Now lets attach the double fold binding to the flour sack. Start about 4” from the edge of the tape then sandwich the flower sack in between the double fold tape.
Next add Elmer's glue and iron to secure in place. Do this all the way around leaving another 4” from where you started.
When you get to the corner make a 45 degree angle and fold the fabric up. Go ahead and add a glue dot to both sides on the corner.
Now stitch both ends together as you would on a quilt. (if you don't know how to do this google how to add binding to a quilt, there are lots of great tutorials out there)
Now you are ready to stitch the binding in place. I like to use edgestitch foot and move the needle over by 2. Then stitch all the way around on the double fold tape and you’re done!
Now you have cute dish towels to dry your dishes!
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!
